LINK is a three week program where all Juniors are required to attend an internship of their choice whether it be abroad or in the states. The purpose of this special experience is to gain knowledge for future job opportunities or to study a specific subject matter. Over the three weeks the students are expected to perform a variety of assignments related to their internship.
First the student shares their anticipations for their internship and create a blog to post this as well as updates like it. Throughout the first week, the student should be brainstorming project idea with his/her mentor. This project is essentially the final product of the internship which is worked on throughout the weeks. In some form, the project has to benefit the mentor's establishment. In the blog, there is a weekly post written to reflect on the week as well as a first and last day selfie with the mentor.
My internship is with Open Sky wilderness therapy (Here is their website: Open Sky). The goal of open sky is to provide troubled teens and young adults with a program that puts them in the wilderness near Dove Creek, CO for an average of about 11 weeks. This gives them both thinking time and a space free from negative influences. My mentor is JJ Simms, the research coordinator for the program. I chose to do my internship with her because of my desire to study and research psychology. I will help her with the collection and examination of data collected from the students involved in the program. I am very excited and think this is a perfect match for what I was looking for!
